Vellum
Wills and digital legacy for Ghanaian families. Vellum helps you write a will, plan for your mobile money, savings and online accounts, and leave clear instructions for the people you love. Today it collects interest online and walks each person through the process offline.
When there is no will, families are left to guess
Most people put off a will because they assume it is only for the wealthy, or for people who own a house. In practice, the cost of not having one lands on the family. Accounts freeze, relatives disagree about what you would have wanted, and courts make decisions that should have been yours.
Modern lives also carry a layer older estate planning ignores: mobile money wallets, online accounts, photos and passwords that can be lost for good if no one is given the keys.
Bank and mobile money accounts can stay locked until the court grants letters of administration, which can take months.
Even a spouse must share what you leave with your parents and wider family, and a partner you have not married may get nothing.
Family houses and land are a common source of disputes, and widows and children can end up pushed out.
Your family or a court may have to decide who raises your children, and no one is named to take your pets in.
Online accounts and photos can be locked away for good, and relatives can end up arguing over your funeral at the hardest time.
Your wishes, all in one place
Vellum replaces the intimidating lawyer's-office first step with a short, plain-language conversation. It asks about your life (partner, children, property, pets), shows you what would happen without a will, and then guides you to put your wishes in writing, one simple step at a time.
The message is deliberate: you don't need a house or savings to make a will. It is not about expecting the worst, it is about making sure everyone knows exactly what you would want.
Where it is today. Vellum is deliberately starting small. The website collects interest and context through the intake, and the team then walks each interested person through the will process offline, one conversation at a time. Every conversation feeds back into the product, and the pieces that prove themselves will move online.

Learning before building
Rather than build a full will-drafting product up front, Vellum collects interest online and handles the rest by hand. This keeps the cost of being wrong low while the team learns what families actually need.
Walking people through the process offline shows which questions confuse them, which assets matter most, and where they hesitate. Those answers decide what gets built next.
